The American Football League and National Football League played their World Championship Game in 1967 at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Technically, this was Super Bowl I, though no one had thought to title the game, much less give it a numeral, Roman or otherwise. The Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs in front of something less than a capacity crowd. Don't believe it? Well, you'll have to take our word, because no one thought to keep a tape of the game.

Angelo Dundee's ringside patois was not always easy to transcribe, or even translate. But in his otherwise casual approach to the English language he was never more exact than when he described himself as a "mixologist." Dundee, who died in his Tampa apartment Wednesday at 90, blended so many talents in the corner that it was always difficult to think of him as just a trainer. He was, by his own estimation, "a doctor, an engineer, a psychologist and sometimes an actor." This was in addition, of course, to being a pretty good boxing man.

As college football's 2012 recruiting classes take shape, familiar faces are again paving the way: Alabama, Texas and Ohio State currently claim the nation's top three classes. But a number of dark horses are charging hard. After failing to finish in the top 20 last season, Texas A&M, Stanford and Vanderbilt could all crack the top tier with certain key additions on Wednesday.

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Let's start with a story. On a summer day almost eight years ago, a young woman reached her first Grand Slam final and was pitted against an accomplished, experienced, heavy-hitting star. But this young player absorbed the power of her opponent, stared down the occasion and walked off with the trophy.
